Welcome to Cure for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia
The Latest...
We've updated our 'Best Reading' section. See excellent articles here.
AND...Please consider donating to support CLL research. Scott Slotterbeck has committed to providing
administrative support, so that 100% of all donations will go to fund research into CLL.
We look to support a variety of research projects that will speed treatments to the CLL patient.
Thank you!

Please join us as we work to find a cure for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia!
What is Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia?
- It is a form of leukemia, which means there are too many white blood cells in the blood (from the Greek meaning
'white blood')
- It is the most common leukemia in the Western World, with about 8,000 cases diagnosed each year in the United States
- It primarily strikes older adults, although about 10% patients develop the disease in their 40s, 50s or earlier.
The average age of diagnosis is the mid 60s
- The course of the disease is variable; patients can be grouped into two or three groups, depending upon the agressiveness
of the disease
- Treatment may or may not be necessary; a less-aggressive form of the disease in an elderly patient may never be
treated. More aggressive cases usually will require treatment
We have two primary purposes: The first is to raise money for CLL research.
We have a 501 (c)(3) designation from the Internal Revenue Service. We strive to keep administrative costs low, and
pledge complete openness as to fund raising and expenditures.
The second is to keep up with legislation that will affect CLL. We will certainly work with
federal and state legislatures and executive branches to educate them about CLL, and to make sure funding is there for research
to find a cure for the disease.
In order to help guide our donations to research projects, we will work closely with the CLL scientific/research
community to evaluate those projects which will best benefit from increased funding

Mission Statement
Cure for Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (Cure for CLL) exists to raise funds leading to better treatments for CLL, and,
ultimately, a cure.
In addition, Cure for CLL will advocate before the federal government to increase awareness and funding for research
into the disease.
We pledge to do whatever is necessary to find a cure for CLL.

The Latest News:
Here you will find some of the latest news about CLL from the research community.
Research Shows CLL to be a disease of both proliferation and apoptosis
Dr. Chiorazzi et al is available at: https://www.the-jci.org/press/23409.pdfSome highlights: All lymphatic sites of CLL infiltration (marrow, nodes, spleen, etc.) are areas of CLL
proliferation. However, the blood has very few dividing cells (which may have helped reinforce the notion that CLL was
a slow-growing, long-lived clonal population). Doubling time of CLL cells in the blood, long an indication that the disease
is progression, may be the result of increased proliferation, which would fit well with a model of more rapidly-dividing
cells instead of defective apoptosis.

News About Cure for CLL!
We have engaged a graphic designer who will help us design a logo for Cure for CLL!
Fund Raising Ideas Needed!
Yes, a T-shirt and sweatshirt will most likely be crafted with our logo, and sold to raise money for the group.
And, of course, we have a PayPal link on the site here, open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, if you feel motivated
to donate a little (or a lot) to the cause!
Advocacy
Scott is a former lobbyist (for a health care association, no less!). He loves politics and has NO TROUBLE stopping
a politician in the hall, or on the street, to talk about CLL!. It's a win-win situation. We need their ear,
and they need our votes!
The action is at the federal level. That means Senators and members of Congress. They have offices in Washington
and in the large cities of your state.
One of Scott's many sayings is that "We are not competing with other cancers for research dollars. We want to increase
the entire pot! And we want to make sure CLL is getting a boost in awareness and funding, as well."
